JACKSON CREEK PARKWAY DESIGN UPDATE

Jackson Creek Prky

The Town has selected local engineering firm of Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) to complete the overall design of Jackson Creek Parkway from Higby Road to State Highway 105. This design work will include the roadway widening to address intersection access, pedestrian and bicycle improvements, water quality and safety upgrades.
The Town of Monument has received federal funding through the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Surface Transportation program in the amount of $800,000 with a local match of $166,311 in 2021. Design is expected to be completed in 12-18 months.
To date, it is estimated that full construction could cost $8-10 million dollars. The Town has secured almost $3.4 million dollars through federal grants and continues to pursue additional funding sources. These funding sources will include contributions from new development along this stretch of Jackson Creek Parkway.
The design process will start in October with public engagement and regular updates throughout the process. To learn more, visit our website.

ELECTIONS

The Town of Monument is participating in a coordinated election administered by El Paso County on November 2, 2021. The Town of Monument Board of Trustees have referred two ballot issues and a ballot question to ballot this November, which are further detailed on our website.

Information on voter registration and updating your registration is available at www.GoVoteColorado.gov. Colorado allows you to register to vote through Election Day. The timeframe when you register, though, may affect the method by which you can vote.
El Paso County will maintain secure 24-hour ballot drop box locations. The closest locations for Monument voters are Monument Town Hall (645 Beacon Lite Road) and the Monument Park and Ride (Woodmoor Drive and I-25).

Voters with questions or concerns should call (719) 575-VOTE, email elections@elpasoco.com, or visit www.EPCVotes.com.

New Town Development Projects Webpage

The Planning Dept. has launched the Development Projects webpage. The Department will post all new development proposals and documentation for the community to review and comment. As development requests are refined through the staff review process, new information and studies will also be posted along with staff contact information for questions  or concerns. This is just one way that the Town is working to increase awareness of new development in the community.

Update on Water Projects Around Town

Raspberry Ln. Water Main/Street Upgrade Project

This project is necessary to replace an old and compromised water main inside the Raspberry Ln subdivision. The water main has repeatedly needed repairs that require half of the community to go without water for extended periods of time. The 8” water main will be replaced throughout the entire street. After installation of the water main, the service line for each of the 48 units will be replaced as well. The service lines provide water to each unit, there is a valve on the service line that allows the water dept. to control water to the units. When the water main and service line replacement is complete, the asphalt and curb and gutter will be replaced. There has been a significant need to replace the hard surfaces on Raspberry Ln for some time. There are significant drainage issues that will be resolved with the replacement. This project began in July and is scheduled to be finish by early November.

Well 3 Redrill Project
Well 3 is one of 9 wells that provide water for Town of Monument customers. Well 3 was drilled and put into operation in the early 1970’s. Since that time the well casing has been compromised and started leaking water from one aquifer into another. Therefore, the well needed to be redrilled. The project started at the end of April and is anticipated to be complete by early fall. The new well will have a higher flow rate than the existing well allowing for the increase in the production of treated water.

Meter Replacement Project
The Town of Monument contracted with Ratliff Utilities to update residential water meters with cellular devices to improve our water usage. There will be 967 meters replaced. Ratliff Utilities is working with Town of Monument water billing staff to contact residents to schedule upgrades and maintenances.
