Meet Shannon Walker, HR Benefits Specialist. She was recognized as our December employee of the month! Shannon works in Human Resources, Finance and helps manage the Town website. She was instrumental in managing the project to re-design the look of the town's website in 2019. We appreciate her hard work and dedication to the Town.
How long you worked for the Town of Monument? Where did you work before Monument?
I have worked for the Town for almost 7 years. Before Monument, I worked as a server at Frankie’s Too in Falcon.
Tell us about your job and how it impacts the Monument community.
My position as HR Benefits Specialist impacts the Monument community in various ways. In the HR side of my job, I assist in finding candidates for open positions who will bring value, hard work and dedication to the Town of Monument while also encouraging longevity with all staff members so the community can get to know the staff who work here. In the Finance side of my job, I strive to ensure all payments made to the Town are safely and securely deposited and applied appropriately to keep business running smoothly.
What is the coolest thing you are working on right now?
Working with the Engagement Committee on upcoming projects for 2020 (events, fun stuff for our staff). The HR person in me loves working on things that will brighten other people’s days.

What do you most enjoy about working for the Town of Monument?
The staff I get to work with. The Town of Monument is still small enough that we develop close working relationships with each other and it makes it feel like we are really a team.
If you could do another job for the Town of Monument for just one day, what would it be?
What is one thing that most people don’t know about you? I have two different colored eyes!
What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Photography and adventure! I really enjoy traveling and am always ready to book the next vacation.
What accomplishment are you most proud of since you started working for the Town of Monument?
I was really proud of my time as the Cemetery Manager. Being able to help families through those hard times was really rewarding to me.
What is the strangest thing that you have experienced while working for the Town of Monument?
One October while I was still at the Front Desk, someone showed up in the Town Hall parking lot with a net and tried to catch a crow in the field next door. He didn’t end up catching it. Not sure what he was aiming to do with the crow but it was strange and slightly entertaining to watch!
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
