  2. PACK FOR THE PLATTE

May 7, 2017, 7:30 AM @ New Santa Fe Regional Trail, Baptist Rd. Trailhead, Monument, CO

The Coalition for the Upper South Platte (CUSP), a long-standing resource protection nonprofit, is hosting the Pack for the Platte, a fundraiser to support wildfire suppression and mitigation. This event is themed around National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day to raise awareness on the importance of mitigation. Modeled after a traditional 5k race, this event breaks with tradition by providing a different kind of challenge, an important element in becoming a wildland firefighter - The Work Capacity Test. Annually, wildland firefighters must test their stamina and endurance. The most arduous level of this test requires carrying 45 pounds for 3 miles, completed within 45 minutes, known as the Pack Test.
