El Paso County Fire Restrictions

Effective November 2, 2020, Sheriff Bill Elder has downgraded Stage Two Fire Restrictions to Stage One Fire Restrictions for all of the unincorporated areas of El Paso County. The Stage I Fire Restrictions shall go into effect immediately and the following are prohibited: 1. Open burning, excepting fires and campfires within permanently constructed fire grates in developed campgrounds and picnic grounds; charcoal grills and wood burning stoves at private residences in areas cleared of all flammable materials. 2. The sale or use of fireworks. 3. Outdoor smoking except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials. The Stage I Restrictions shall remain in effect until such time the restrictions are modified pursuant to El Paso County Ordinance #19-001.

The Stage I Restrictions shall remain in effect until such time the restrictions are modified pursuant to El Paso County Ordinance #19-001. We will continue to monitor fuel moisture samples as we move through the rest of the summer months.

Sheriff Bill Elder Elevates Fire Restrictions from Stage I to Stage II effective August 24, 2020, at 12:00 PM. This elevation primarily impacts campfire and smoking activities over those restrictions that had been in place during Stage I.
The following activities are prohibited during Stage II Fire Restrictions:

Open burning defined as campfires and warming fires, charcoal grills and outdoor wood burning stoves, the use of explosives, outdoor welding or use of acetylene or other torch with open flames other than in an area cleared of all flammable materials. Fires contained within liquid-fueled or gas-fueled stoves are permitted.
The use or sale of fireworks of all kinds.
Outdoor smoking except within an enclosed vehicle or building.
Violations of Stage II Fire Restrictions in unincorporated El Paso County may result in a fine up to $1000.
