Sanitary Conditions & Maintenance Requirements

If a commercial building, multiple residential dwelling unit, residential unit sharing a common wall (such as an apartment), or the site itself exhibits the following, it shall be declared a nuisance:
  • Damage
  • Decay
  • Dilapidation
  • Faulty construction
  • Inadequate light
  • Inadequate maintenance
  • Open to unauthorized entry by persons or animals

It is the duty of the owner of any premises located within the Town to maintain the premises, whether occupied or vacant, in a safe and sanitary condition.

Landlord Non-Compliance

If you are experiencing non-compliance from a landlord regarding conditions of your housing (to include the presence of mold, unsafe conditions, or unsanitary conditions) please call the El Paso County Health Department at 719-578-8635. You may also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau by calling 719-636-1155, selection number 7.
